At St Mary and St Peter Catholic Primary School, we believe that each child has individual and unique needs. We acknowledge that a significant proportion of children will have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) at some time in their school career. Many of these children may require help throughout their time in school, while others may need a little extra support for a short period to help them overcome more temporary needs. If these children are to achieve their full potential, we must recognize this and plan accordingly.
We aim to provide all children with a supportive environment and ensure that all children are given the tools and strategies required to support them with everyday life both in and out of school. This includes: enabling every child to experience success, promote individual confidence, give all children with SEND equal opportunities and listen to all parties voice throughout any graduated response.
At St Mary and St Peter, we welcome children with special needs. Staff at the school are exposed to informative CPD in order to give them the best skills to meet the needs of SEND learners. This includes setting effective targets which are monitored and reviewed regularly by senior leaders and governors.
We have introduced SEND Parent Evenings each term to ensure that we are able to communicate with parents regularly about the progress being made by their children. The SENCO is also readily available to support any further queries.
Our SENCO is Chris Lambert. He is responsible for co-ordinating the provision for all SEND pupils at St Mary and St Peter and works closely with families, staff and pupils. We also have a designated SEN teaching assistant (Lisa Gooch) that supports with running a range of SEND interventions.
In addition, we have our Pastoral Lead (Lynn McGregor) who also works closely with pupils and families to support socially and emotionally.
In the first instance, please contact your child's class teacher if you have any concerns about your child's special needs or if you are concerned that your child may have additional need.
