St Mary and St Peter Catholic Primary School

PE

At SMSP, we recognise how important sport and healthy living is in our everyday lives and the lives of our
children. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to engage in a range of exciting and
engaging physical activities. We also understand that through good quality physical education we can
nurture confident, resilient children who will strive to be their personal best. We aim to nurture an attitude
of respect and joy for the success of others as well as a pride in their own successes. We believe that all
children have the right to be active and healthy.

PE Curriculum Vision

To effectively achieve our intent, we have adopted the Get Set 4 PE Programme.  This curriculum has been crafted to allow all children to have the skills and mindset to leave primary school with the capabilities to be successful in their sporting challenges and active lifestyles at secondary school and beyond. We ensure that every child has 2 sessions of quality PE each week, one with their class teacher and the other with a school employed PE specialist. This allows us to deliver a greater range of topics so that child can get the widest range of experiences.

At SMSP, we also offer a wide range of active after school clubs. These include multi-sports, tennis, zumba and more. We rotate our club provision each half term so as to always offer something fresh and exciting for the children. If you would like to find out more about what clubs are on offer, or how to enroll your child in an after school club, please contact our office staff.
